    Travelling North-East

Baobab tree

You see plenty of these on the road from Bamako to Mopti.

Dogon country

The Dogon people number around 800,000. Some of the Dogon villages are built in the cliffs.

Dogon granaries

Pepper-pot shaped grain stores.

Mosque at Mopti

Built from mud, although the top has recently been set in concrete.

The road from Sévaré to Gao

Beautiful scenery as mountains appear out of the dry flat surroundings.

The Hand of Fatima

The rock formation is in the shape of a hand.

Djébok market day

The nomadic Tamasheq traders gather to sell their sheep, goats, and camels in this village outside Gao.

Lots of camels

You rarely see camels down south, but around Gao, nearer the desert, there are many!

Waiting around

Having brought their masters' goods early in the morning, the donkeys wait patiently, tied together in the midday sun, for the long trek home.

Mali style!

I try on my new long Malian "boubou"! I forgot to have a picture taken when I was wearing my turban!
